The Club was formed by 7 local businessmen, which included 2 councillors and at that time provision was made for additional tennis courts although they no longer exist.
Sadly the original club house was destroyed by fire in the mid 1960’s and the present club house was rebuilt by ‘The Norwegian Log Construction Company Ltd’ and continues in that form to the present day. Subsequently an additional extension was added to enlarge the clubs facilities.
The bowling teams have enjoyed many years of success and currently there are 6 teams competing in various Local leagues along with 2 veterans teams and they all compete from early April to around the end of September.
There are regular events open to Non Bowlers which are always thoroughly enjoyed by all who take part. These are complemented by regular social events and functions.
There are 2 snooker tables within the club which are always in use. PICTURE OF SNOOKER TABLES
The Club is also looking to start a darts team for any of those interested please contact the club.
The club has it’s own fully licensed bar serving JW Lees beers, spirits etc and is available for hire for various functions as required.
In these days of declining popularity the club is enjoying a revival and it is to be hoped that it’s continued success will see it through to it’s 150th year in October 2026.
